Why are my chains too long when I ordered the correct size?Updated 8 months ago
Tire chains might come too long for a few reasons:
Universal Fit: Many tire chains are designed to fit a range of tire sizes. If you have a smaller tire, the chain might be too long and need a shortening adjustment for proper fit. As long as the width fits, the length can always be shortened.
Installation Issues: If not installed correctly, chains can appear too long. They need to be adjusted properly to fit snugly around the tire.
Wear and Stretching: Over time, chains can stretch and become longer due to wear and tear. This might make them seem too long compared to when they were first purchased.
To address a chain that's too long, you can usually adjust the tension or you'll need to remove the tail end cross chain, fit the chains up again making the connection further down the the sidechain (after the cross chain was removed) this should take up the slack. If it is still too long you can remove as many cross chains as necessary to get a good fit.
Please note: A tire chain too long is normal and can be adjusted.
